First Coast High School is a 9–12 comprehensive high school located in the Oceanway neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida. It was opened in 1990, at the same time as its sister school, Mandarin High School, opened in the southern part of the city. The school's design is unique for Jacksonville schools (other than Mandarin, which started with an identical layout). The school is built around a large paved courtyard, reminiscent of Spanish architecture from the colonial period of Latin America. In 2006, an additional wing was added to the school, to accommodate the explosive growth in North Jacksonville. , the principal is Alvin Brennan. ==Improvement== First Coast was one of 16 schools nationwide selected by the College Board for inclusion in the EXCELerator ''School Improvement Model'' program beginning the 2007–08 school year. The project was funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
